Is My Child Ready for Preschool? A Simple Checklist
Is my child ready for preschool? It is one of the most common questions we hear.
There is no perfect test. Every child grows at their own pace. But there are good signs to look for. Here is a simple checklist from our classroom.
Signs Your Child May Be Ready
Your child is fully potty trained. This is required to enroll.
Your child can be away from you for a few hours and feel okay.
Your child plays near other children and is learning to share.
Your child can follow a simple direction, like "Come sit with me."
Your child shows interest in books, songs, colors, or letters.
Skills We Help Build
Your child does not need to know all of these on day one. In our 3-Year-Old Class, teachers gently practice them every day:
Washing hands on their own
Cleaning up toys
Following classroom routines
Putting on a jacket and handling their own things
Taking turns and sharing feelings in kind ways
What About Age?
For our 3-Year-Old Class, your child must turn 3 by January 1 of the school year. Check our Admissions page for the current rules. Age is only part of the picture. Readiness matters too.
